Undeterred by news that real world American special forces have indeed killed Osama Bin Laden, “The Hurt Locker” duo Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal are pushing forward with their own OBL thriller, “Kill Bin Laden”, a film that, previously, was said to be about a failed hunt for the Al Qaeda terrorist leader. Of course, with Bin Laden having had his ass recently capped, it’s unknown if Bigelow and Boal will tinker with their original script to take into consideration the new reality.
In any case, “Kill Bin Laden” has now landed its first leading man in Joel Edgerton, currently in “The Thing” remake and co-starring with Tom Hardy in “Warrior”, and who was recently rumored for “The Bourne Legacy”. The Australian actor will play “a special operative” in the movie, one of any commandos tasked with hunting down and putting a bullet in OBL’s brain.
Honestly, I don’t know why Boal and Bigelow couldn’t just go ahead and switch the script from a group of commandos TRYING to kill OBL to the Navy SEALs team that actually DID kill him. Wouldn’t that make for a better story instead of, “Hey, look at these guys, they’re going to fail!”?
