Last seen fleeing machete-wielding maniac Jason in the “Friday the 13th” reboot, Danielle Panabaker has now joined the cast of John Carpenter’s horror movie “The Ward”. The film has already locked in blond goddess Amber Heard as its lead, a patient at a psychiatric hospital who suspects something supernatural is afoot. Good guess, since this is a ghost story, after all. Panabaker will be playing a fellow patient.
According to THR, Panabaker’s character will be a snobbish girl who flirts with orderlies and “faces” electroshock therapy. Doesn’t sound like all that much fun, but everyone needs a hobby, I suppose. Also joining the cast is Mamie Gummer, last seen in Ang Lee’s dramedy “Taking Woodstock”. No word on what character she’ll be playing.
“The Ward” is being seen as director John Carpenter’s return to form. His last theatrical movie was 2001’s “Ghost of Mars”, with episodes of “Masters of Horrors” to past the time. As a fan of Carpenter’s works, especially his ’80s output, one hopes this is his way back to the big leagues.
Carpenter will be directing from a script by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, with revisions by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller. Shooting on the horror film is scheduled to begin next month in Spokane, Washington.
