John Carter of Mars Gets a Teaser Poster, Leaves Mars Behind

Last we heard, Disney’s “John Carter of Mars” was planning to dump the “Mars” part of the title (apparently the red planet is no longer as popular as it once was, or maybe Disney is still feeling the pang of hurt from their massive flop “Mars Needs Moms”), and that looks like that’s the case, at least according to this first teaser poster for the upcoming sci-fi epic. Early poster and synopsis below.

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church, Willem Dafoe, and directed by Andrew Stanton.

John Carter arrives March 9th, 2012.

I know teaser posters are supposed to be vague, but this looks more like an ad for Giorgio Armani’s John Carter, pour homme.

I cant wait to see this film, hope they have the sense to move on to “Carson of Venus” and “Beyond the Farthest Star” two more characters from other stories, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ was great and he imagined Tarzan,… and I love Tarzan, but,… I love his others stories more! Even though JC is still on its way, I can’t wait for the next two movies, (since this will be a triolgy), and it has to encompass 11 books! I hope Disney has the rights to those characters too!… Can’t wait to see all of Edgar Rice Burrough’s heroes brought to the big screen!
