John Cusack Gives Action a Try in Jan de Bont’s Stopping Power

What is John Cusack doing in a Jan de Bont (“Speed”) action movie? Then again, what was Sandra Bullock doing in “Speed”? I guess if you’re good enough, you can make anything credible. And John Cusack is damn plentiful good. (Check out his turn as a quirky hitman in “Grosse Pointe Blank” if you don’t believe me.) Cusack’s latest is “Stopping Power”, a $50 million dollar movie directed by Jan de Bont. In the film, a criminal on the run steals an RV with a young girl inside, then forces the girl’s father (Cusack) to participate in his getaway by acting as a decoy for the police. The script is by Eric Red (”The Hitcher”).
Here’s an interesting quote about the movie via Variety:
Pic, budgeted at $50 million and set to start shooting in August in Berlin, stars John Cusack as an American tourist whose daughter is kidnapped. An average dad who just happens to be an experienced test pilot, he engages in a cat and mouse hunt for his daughter, and the pic culminates in a 51-minute, real-time chase involving cars, helicopters and jets.
