John Cusack’s Stopping Power is … Stopped

Well this is a damn shame. I’ve been looking forward to the Jan De Bont/John Cusack actioner “Stopping Power” ever since I heard about it (here). Now it looks like I’ll never get to see what a “51-minute, real-time chase involving cars, helicopters and jets” looks like on the big screen, because the film has been killed. Or, more specifically, the film’s financial backers have pulled out, forcing Internationalmedia to cancel the film’s production before it even got started in Berlin, where the film is set.
More from Variety:
Pic, in which John Cusack was to star, was a co-production between Internationalmedia subsidiary Intermedia, Bill Block’s QED Intl. and German f/x house Action Concept and was set to start lensing shortly in Berlin.
Internationalmedia declined to say which of the film’s financiers had pulled out, indicating that it would pursue legal recourse. A separate production subsidiary set up for the film, IM Stopping Power GmbH, has filed for insolvency as a result.
Maybe if Michael Bay stepped in…
