Via horror site Shock Til You Drop comes news that Hong Kong action director John Woo (pictured, left) may — and I stress, may, because nothing has been officially announced yet — executive produce a new horror/Western called “High Moon”. At the moment, Woo is still preoccupied with getting his Chinese epic “Red Cliff” into theaters. STYD quotes a Myspace blog by an actress/filmmaker named Jordan Bayne, who also informs us that besides John Woo, “High Moon” has already nabbed itself a stellar cast that includes Rutger Hauer , Sean Bean, and Cillian Murphy. Now that is a pretty awesome cast, you gotta admit.
That story is called “High Moon”. Yes, it is exactly what you are thinking it might be. A vampire western. Think “Lost Boys” meets “The Magnificent Seven”. And my writing partner Asim Ahmad is also the producer through his company Solar Eclipse. Originally we were supposed to begin shooting in February 08 but it has been pushed [for a great reason which I am not at liberty to divulge quite yet] to August 08.
There are a number of reasons this project is off the hook for me. One. I am acting again. But. I am acting in something I had the privilege of being a part of the creation of. Two. Rutger Hauer is one of my co-stars. Now. That was the first person that Asim told me was attached to the project. You may love Rutger for “Bladerunner” or “The Hitcher”…even his Guinness ads… but I love Rutger for “Ladyhawke”. Just writing about this I am getting ridiculously psyched! Now. I cannot be held accountable for remembering who became attached to the project next…but… let me tell you about a few of the phenomenal actors involved. Sean Bean. Yes. Boromir in “The Lord of the Rings”. Cillian Murphy of “Batman Begins and Shane West of “A Walk to Remember”. Now you can go to IMDB.COM and discover how rich and diverse and talented these guys are.
At some point Asim was on the phone with me and suddenly he couldn’t speak. He was stuttering and stumbling… Finally… he said John Woo wants to Executive Produce. JOHN WOO!!!!!!!!! I don’t have to say anymore do I? IS THIS FUCKING OFF THE HOOK OR WHAT??!!
Again, there have been no official announcements of any of these guys (and John Woo) having joined the movie, and IMDB.com has no listing of “High Moon” yet. According to Jordan Bayne (pictured, below), the film is currently in the early stages, and production isn’t expected to start until August 2008, so there are plenty of time for announcements and additions to IMDB.com.
John Woo as a producer is interesting, but not nearly as exciting as John Woo the director of “High Moon”. But the year is still young, and who knows, he might decide to jump into the director’s chair after all by August 2008…
