Johnnie To’s Mad Detective Poster and Trailer

It’s just killing me that I haven’t been able to find a DVD of the Johnnie To-Tsui Hark-Ringo Lam collaboration “Triangle” with English subtitles. Seriously, Hong Kong movie makers, is it so hard to ask for a DVD of your movies with English? Pretty please? In any case, the latest Johnnie To movie to surface is “Mad Detective”, which according to the guys at 24 Frames per Second is barely getting any advertising, even though the film is scheduled to open in two weeks time against the American vampire movie “30 Days of Night” and Danny Pang’s “In Love with the Dead” on November 29th, 2007. Fortunately we have the poster and trailer for the film.

A missing police pistol is connected to a series of recent murders. Its owner Wong vanished while pursuing suspects in the Hong Kong mountains. His partner Chi-Wai miraculously returned unharmed. Hotshot regional Crime Unit inspector Ho knows the only chance he has of solving the case is to ask for help from his mentor, former boss Bun. Bun was a gifted criminal profiler until he went insane several years ago. Since then, he lives in seclusion with his beloved wife May.

Bun has the gift to see a person’s inner personality, where their subconscious desires, emotions & mental states are laid bare and these are the key to unlocking a killer’s identity. Bun comes to the conclusion Chi-Wai has a total of seven personalities and the cap’s alternate identities are responsible for his murderous behavior. While Bun’s investigation and mental state gets increasingly out of control, Ho starts to believe he has made a serious mistake in asking this mad detective to help with the inquiry. With Ching Wan Lau as a crazy cop with major mental problems, but a brilliance for solving crimes? How could you go wrong with that!
