It looks like the latest high-profile actor to climb aboard Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” is Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Variety reports that the “50/50” star is in talks to join the cast of Tarantino’s stab at the spaghetti western. One thing that could prevent Gordon-Levitt from appearing in the film is his schedule. He’s as in demand as any actor right now, and “Django Unchained” is supposed to begin filming in January in New Orleans, there are some potential conflicts in that arena.
Hopefully everything will fall into place, and Gordon-Levitt will hook up with what is already a murderer’s row of rad dudes. So far the cast of “Django Unchained” includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Kurt Russell, Christoph Waltz, Don Johnson, and a little guy I like to call Samuel L. Jackson. That’s a sweet collection of badasses if I’ve ever seen one.
“Django Unchained” purportedly follows a former slave on a quest for vengeance, and is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2012.
I wonder if I’m going to get sick of Gordon-Levitt anytime soon. Like I said, he’s hot right now, which means he’s in or attached to seemingly every single film in existence or production. Normally with this sort of saturation I start to get annoyed with an overly familiar face, but in this case I haven’t yet, and I don’t think I’m going to. Gordon-Levitt takes roles in an eclectic array of movies, and shies away from cookie cutter parts and typecasting, so he’s never boring. Unless something drastic happens, “Hesher” is going to be on my top ten list for 2011, and hell, just because he’s in it, I’m actually considering seeing that bike messenger spy thriller movie “Premium Rush”, which looks like a giant turd in every other respect.
Whatever happens, I’m still super excited for “Django Unchained”. I want to see what Tarantino does with the spaghetti western as a genre, and like I said, the cast is shaping up to be incredible.
