Joss Whedon on the Short List to Direct The Avengers?

That’s the word from IESB, who stresses that this is not an April Fool’s joke. Whedon’s name is the second one to pop up in regards to the highly coveted (and most likely extremely stressful) gig, with “The Incredible Hulk” director Louis Leterrier having already thrown his hat publicly (and one presumes, behind-the-scenes via his “people”) into the ring to direct “The Avengers”.

The thing is, Whedon wouldn’t make a bad director at all. He’s already got the fanboy street cred thing, and he’s already directed a big-budget sci-fi actioner in “Serenity”. Plus, you an expect plenty of snappy banter between the heroes with Whedon at the helm, as he would no doubt take a crack at the Zak Penn “Avengers” screenplay before jumping onboard to direct.

So what do you think, fanboys: Joss Whedon on “The Avengers”? Whoever gets the job, the multi-superhero project is due out May 4, 2012.

Summer Glau approves of Joss Whedon directing The Avengers.

I approve of Summer Glau! LoL.
Whedon or Letteir would be great actually. Both have different styles, but both are hyper kinetic and great at action. I’d have to go with Whedon though.

Mmm I’m not so sure. I loved Firefly, Serenity and his recent Dollhouse, but I think this movie is too big for him. This is going to combine the massive success that was Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and the soon to be made Thor and Captain America. Not to mention he has no history with any of these characters. At least Leterrier did The Incredible Hulk and is familiar with the characters.

Personally, I think Whedon is a better writer than a director. So I don’t know if I would let him direct. And with Clash of the Titans not being as good as it should’ve, I don’t think I would go with Leterrier either. Actually the person I would want most (behind Christopher Nolan of course) would be Jon Favreau.

Favs himself is almost scared to touch it as he doesn’t think he’d be the person to be able to mix the fantasy aspects of Thor, with the real world, technical aspects of Iron Man and the Avengers. Personally, though Clash isn’t getting great reviews, he did do “Incredible Hulk” and that’s the version being used for Avengers. SO he’d be decent. Whedon has shown he’s good with ensemble casts so again I think he could pull it off. Though I would take Favs if he decided to do it. He made Iron Man awesome, and I can’t wait for IM2.

Just came home from seeing Clash. It's a joke, only thing that kept me from leaving, was my row filled up quickly. Movies are becoming more and more disappointments, especially if you know what their based from. I may not be up with directors names, like some of you, For the Avengers film they should combine directors, from super hero films that are from successful films from critics of Marvel. NOT the general public.
