With Rachel McAdams having already denied rumors that she was talking to producers of “Spider-Man 4” to play Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat in Sam Raimi’s latest Spidey film, the question remains: is the Black Cat really going to be in the movie, and if so, who will play her? According to the blokes at UGO, “Bourne” actress Julia Stiles is now “talking” with producers about the role. UGO doesn’t really say who they learned this little news from, just that they “have learned”, which, er, could be totally bullshit, and probably is.
So would Julia Stiles fit the role of the Black Cat? Eh, I don’t know. Stiles’ biggest role to date was that dancing movie “Save the Last Dance”. She’s been in a ton of movies, usually playing teenagers or 20-something characters, and has never really gotten her due, mostly because, well, though she’s a decent enough actress, she’s never really wowed anyone. Even though she’s been in a big franchise like the “Bourne” movies, I don’t think people ever really connected her to the role. Point is, Stiles doesn’t have that “It” feel about her. Even in movies where she’s the star, she always just seems to be there and not front and center. In fact, she’s kind of like Kirsten Dunst that way. You could probably swap her with Dunst, and the franchise wouldn’t miss a beat.
In any case, all of the above is probably pointless, because there is little chance this rumor is actually going to bear fruit. Actors “talk to” producers all the time about roles, it doesn’t mean they’ll get it, or if the producers are even listening.
