Julianne Moore has been rumored for Carrie’s crazy ass fundamentalist mother Margaret in the “Carrie” remake for a while now, but now it’s officially official. She will indeed play the role originally assayed by Piper Laurie in the 1976 original.
So there, you can stop worrying now. MGM has gotten a pretty damn good actress to play what is essentially a silly, over-the-top stereotypical version of what Hollywood thinks all “religious people” are like — you know, crazy. And homicidal.
Besides Moore, the unbelievably gorgeous Gabriella Wilde (“The Three Musketeers”, below) has also been cast as Sue Snell, the role originally played by Amy Irving in the Brian DePalma original.
Kimberly Peirce (“Boys Don’t Cry”) will direct the film, about a sheltered high school girl who unleashes her newly developed telekinetic powers after she is pushed too far by her high school peers. And just in time for prom, too! Hey, guys, I don’t recommend saying “No” when she asks you to go to the prom with her.
Chloe Morez (“Kick Ass”) will play the lead.
