Eager fans have been waiting almost a decade for the long-rumored sequel to 2001’s send up of the fashion world, “Zoolander”, a movie that everyone else likes more than I do. Reports have gone back and forth, from “it’s happening” to “it’ll never happen,” and everything in between. But as of right now, it looks like the probability that “Zoolander 2” will happen is pretty high.
MTV caught up with beardo Justin Theroux (notice the Fear shirt, nice), who has taken over the writing and directing duties from Ben Stiller. Theroux said the script is “In good shape” and that after a few minor adjustments they will begin submitting it around. It is possible that you may see Derek Zoolander’s trademark Blue Steel on screen once more in 2012, if the world doesn’t end.
The beginning of the story finds Zoolander and Hansel in a dark place, “about to ring 40’s bell”, and they’re going to have to fight their way back into the fashion industry. I hope that means a real fight, or at least a gasoline fight. With any luck Will Ferrell will reprise his role as the evil designer Mugatu. There is also a new villain based on Jonah Hill, and Theroux is hopeful that Hill himself will take the role.
