Karl Urban is a God Among Vampires in Priest

We’ve known for a while now that Paul Bettany will be the warrior priest hero in “Priest”, Scott Stewart’s live-action adaptation of the Tokyo Pop comic book of the same name, and recently we learned that Paul will be getting able assist from the ass-kicking Maggie Q. as a female counterpart. Now word from THR is that Karl Urban, last seen beaming up to J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot, will be playing the lead villain in “Priest”.

In the upcoming horror/post-apocalyptic action movie, Urban will play a character name Black Hat, described as the evil leader of the bloodsuckers who have absconded with the niece of Paul Bettany’s character, forcing the vampire killer to go it alone without Church consent to get her back. Urban’s Black Hat was once a former priest and vampire hunter himself, but now fancies himself the god of vampires, probably because he wears a black hat that reads “God of Vampires” in blinking lights. People tried to tell him someone made that motto up just to sell hats, but it’s like talking to a wall with this guy.

Cam Gigandet was previously cast as a Sheriff who teams up with Paul Bettany’s character to save the kidnapped niece.

Cory Goodman adapted the comic book, and Stewart will direct for Screen Gems. Production on the post-apocalyptic flick starts up next week in Los Angeles.
