You may or may not have heard, but the success of the “Underworld” prequel, last year’s “Rise of the Lycans” has convinced the Powers That Be that you, the movie watcher, want another “Undeworld” movie — or three. A new trilogy, it was reported, is currently being developed as we speak over at Sony’s Screen Gems, and recent rumors had Kate Beckinsale returning in the Selene role. That, apparently, is news to Kate Beckinsale, who was asked about it while doing the promo rounds for her new thriller, the comic book adaptation of “Whiteout”.
Via Collider, here’s what Beckinsale had to say about the rumor that she’s returning for not just part 4, but a new trilogy of “Underworld” movies:
“I don’t know anything about a 4th Underworld. I don’t know anything about that at this point.
It was always conceived as a trilogy, which I was never going to be in the third one. I think if they came up with an amazing script I wouldn’t be adverse to it. But it’s not planned or anything.
I don’t think my daughter needs to see my bottom in rubber for another ten years. But I don’t know, I’ve heard they’re talking about a 4th one, but I don’t know if that’s officially happening or it’s that a rumor. As far as I’m concerned it’s just a rumor.”
” I think if they came up with an amazing script I wouldn’t be adverse to it.” Translation: CHA-CHING, Hollywood!
We are talking about a franchise featuring vampires fighting werewolves, after all, how “amazing” could a script for the fourth movie be? But I like that Beckinsale doesn’t seem completely against the idea, which means there is a very real possibility she may, in fact, return for a fourth (or more) movie.
