It’s a no-brainer, right? Her husband Len Wiseman (who directed her in the first two “Underworld” movies) is already directing the Sony Pictures remake of “Total Recall”, so why not go ahead and cast Kate Beckinsale as one of the two female leads?
In this case, Deadline is reporting that an offer has already been extended to Beckinsale (who is currently shooting the fourth “Underworld” movie up there in snowy Canada ways) to play Lori in the reboot, which is set to star Colin Farrell in the Arnold Schwarzenegger role. Previously, Jessica Biel was thought to have been offered the role, but either she turned it down, or the report was erroneous. Either way, it’s Beckinsale now if she wants it. Unless, of course, this report is wrong, that is.
The Lori role in question was played by Sharon Stone in the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed original. Lori is Douglas Quaid’s wife, who turns out to be something so much more.
The fact that Beckinsale, and previously Biel, are attached to the Lori role, with Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson circling the other female lead, Melina, makes me believe this reboot isn’t nearly as “different” from the 1990 original as we’ve been led to believe.
