Kate Winslet is currently “in talks” to join “Divergent” for Summit Entertainment, who is hoping to jump-start a whole new trilogy of films that could, presumably, take the place of “Twilight” and latch onto the popularity of “The Hunger Games”.
It’s unknown what character Winslet will be playing. We do know that the former “Titanic” star won’t be the female lead, because that one’s going to brand new “It” girl Shailene Woodley, who is scheduled to play 16-year old Beatrice Prior, the spunky (of course) heroine of Veronica Roth’s trilogy of books that the movies will be based on.
So what’s the big plot this time around?
Set in a futuristic dystopia, a teenager seeks to break free from her homogeneous society that divides people based on human traits. She leaves her faction and joins a rival group, where she falls for a young man.
Of course, Kate Winslet knows a thing or two about bucking a restrictive society and falling in love with a young handsome buck. Maybe she can give “Beatrice” some advice, like, try to avoid the iceberg, etc.
Neil Burger is set to direct “Divergent”, which has its leading lady but no leading man. Hunky hunks like Lucas Till, Alex Pettyfer and Jeremy Irvine have all tested for the male lead, but apparently no one has struck the studio’s fancy yet.
“Divergent” is currently scheduled for March 21, 2014. The second book, “Insurgent”, was released last year, while the third and final book is expected later this year.
