I honestly couldn’t stand Katie Cassidy when she was on “Supernatural”, but I thought she was easily the best thing about the recent “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake. She was certainly a lot better than the film’s lead, a dull Rooney Mara who actually walked around the reboot like she was sleepwalking. Katie Cassidy is now in negotiations to join Charlie Matthau’s “Freaky Deaky”, his adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel of the same name.
Cassidy will join Matt Dillon and Brendan Fraser in the film, which would find the “Gossip Girl” actress playing “Robin Abbot, one of the ex-hippies who went to jail for blowing up a police car. After being released, she starts a career as an historical romance novelist and reconnects with Brendan Fraser’s character in order to plot her revenge.”
Dillon, meanwhile, will play “an LAPD bomb squad officer who stumbles upon a plot by two former hippie activists who plan to use their bomb-making skills to trick an alcoholic movie mogul into handing over millions of dollars.”
“Freaky Deaky” is shooting next week in Michigan.
Cassidy can next be seen in the teen comedy “Monte Carlo” with Selena Gomez and her “Gossip Girl” co-star Leighton Meester. She was also in 2008’s “Taken”.
