Kenneth Branagh is already signed on to direct the upcoming “Jack Ryan” reboot for Paramount, but what he really wants to do is play the villain, too. The former “Thor” director and actor is now in negotiations to do just that.
“Star Trek’s” Chris Pine, of course, is scheduled to play the hero Jack Ryan in the reboot, which is apparently now going under the title of “Jack Ryan”. I guess that makes sense. It’s a lot better than the generic “Moscow” title the movie was working with for a while.
In the reboot, Pine would play a young Jack Ryan, a former Marine living in Moscow who uncovers a terrorist plot hatched by Branagh’s evil Viktor Stazov, playing “a financial wiz who, with the help of the Russian government, masterminds a plot to devalue American currency and thus destroy the U.S. economy.”
The film is going back to Ryan’s roots, before his days as a CIA analyst. But since he’s an ex-Marine, you can expect him to still be a badass. It’ll be interesting if they turn him into a real action hero in this one, since the older Ryans have always been more brains than brawn. Of course, that didn’t stop them from getting their hands dirty, too.
