Kenneth Branagh’s Thor Gets an Official Teaser Poster

Marvel Studios has released the first official poster for their upcoming movie “Thor”. It looks like just a teaser poster, though, with black and white and with a flowing red cape. Classy, and kind of heroic.

Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Starring Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, Matt Battaglia and directed by Kenneth Branagh.

The hammer falls May 6, 2011.

    helmet needed

What is people’s obsesion with the helmet, I mean we know he wears it in the movie because there’s the part when he takes it off and kneels before Odin and the part were he rases Mjolnir. On top of that most of it takes place on earth were he doesn’t even have his costume.

the obsession is it’s a thor poster. most people looking at it dont have a clue who the actor is. ok he’s got a big hammer but the most recognizable aspect is in fact the helmet. Most girls even know it from adventures in baby sitting. Market him

Thor’s most recognizable accessory would have to be his hammer. I mean, come on, it his freaking weapon for chrissakes. I agree, the helmet is cool but it’s like all these people are saying the movie’s gonna suck just because Thor’s running around without the helmet for most of the movie. In real life, Vikings didn’t run around with a damned war helmet on all the time. Even the comic book version of Thor did this, especially the Ultimate version. And say what you want about the Ultimate universe, but it seems to have had quite an impact on the Marvel movies.

Also, running around in a Viking helmet the whole movie and not have it fall off/get damaged just to “sell” the iconic look of the character is hokey as hell. Even though they tend to piss us off most of the time, there’s a reason why these Hollywood bigwigs are paid millions to make movies and everyone else who’s complaining do not. The helmet will show up, don’t worry. But PLEASE, can we focus on another aspect of this film besides “Thor doesn’t have his helmet on”?

        Thank you.

All that said, this is a teaser poster. He should have the helmet. LOL. But I agree it wouldn’t be practical to be running around with it, hence the reason it was dropped from his ultimate persona.

I’m sure this will start another debate of helmet like proportions… but I think the hammer is too big. I think it looks goofy big – like a giant foam hammer that a kid would carry around. Part of what makes it so cool is that is doesn’t have to be this giant boomey-knocker thing. But that’s just my opinion.

Funny, some thought it was too small. I think it’s the right size. I always thought of it as a cinderblock on a stick, and that’s pretty much how it came off. I understand what you’re saying but if it was the size of say a large sledge hammer head it just wouldn’t look right. It should look like it has some heft to it, and from the interviews, Chris Hemsworth says they made several and most of them had some real weight behind them.

I understand what you’re saying, I was just going off of the more classic comic book look. I always figured that if it were a magical hammer it didn’t need to be big. I’m not a fan of the Ultimate Thor’s hammer – too big and axe like in my opinion, I’m glad they didn’t go that direction.

More than anything I guess it’s a matter of opinion because I totally get what you’re saying about the cinder block on a stick (which is exactly what it looks like) – and yet all I wanted to see was a giant sledge hammer! Ha!

LOL! Would you prefer the Norse version of Mjolnir? It’s the size of an upholstry/framing/carpenters hammer. Take a look LOL!

Hey I wonder if they’ll be putting out the first opening night showing on a “Thursday” for the obvious connection? It’d be highly appropriate and surely Thor The Thunderer himself would approve and bless this movie for it coming out on his day.LOL!

          That’d be awesome!!

  • Theagent0fgod

That is one cool teaser poster but I still miss his mighty helmet. They were worn on the battlefield I think. The hammer’s great too, it almost says :Can’t touch this!
