As previously reported, pencil mustache guy Jamie Foxx has landed the male lead in Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti Western, “Django Unchained” after Will Smith passed. After that happened, Tarantino met with Idris Elba, Chris Tucker, and Jamie Foxx, before Foxx eventually won out.
The actor will play a freed slave who goes on what will no doubt be a long and laborious and bloody mission to rescue his beloved, who has been absconded by bad guys Leonardo DiCaprio (as an evil plantation owner) and Samuel L. Jackson (as the evil plantation owner’s right-hand man). Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” star Christoph Waltz is expected to play a German bounty hunter who assists Django on his mission of killin’ and love.
In an article about the casting of Foxx in “Unchained”, Variety mentions that, among the women who are currently testing for Broomhilda, Django’s lost-love, is Kerry Washington, who co-starred opposite Foxx in the bio-pic “Ray”.
No word if Washington has landed the role, but she is said to be one of “a handful of contenders in the mix”.
