Kevin McKidd Offered Highlander Remake
Highlander (Remake 2010) Movie — By Nix on August 22, 2008 |
From Journeyman to Highlander? Sure, why not. Or at least, that’s the casting couch rumor of the day according to the blokes over at Joblo.com, who has it on good authority — okay, so maybe not — that McKidd has mentioned, seemingly “off the cuff”, that he’s been “approached” to pick up the broadsword in Summit Entertainment’s planned remake of “Highlander”. You know, the first one? Not the one about how they’re aliens from the planet Endor, or the other one where they’re monks hiding in the Count of Monte Cristo’s dungeon, or that idiotic one where they’re bad extras from a bad version of “The Road Warrior”. Yeah, the first one. The only one worth watching.
Anyhoo, here’s what someone told Joblo:
JoBlo reader ‘Lynchy’ tells us that actor – and actual Scotsman – Kevin McKidd (HBO’s “ROME”, DOG SOLDIERS) was just on Dublin radio, and mentioned he’d been approached by the production company about starring in the film. We don’t know much more than that, but the producers did previously mention they would include medieval Scotland in their version of the story. And McKidd may have some time on his schedule after the termination of his “JOURNEYMAN” series.
Yeah, not real solid, this one. But you know what, I could see McKidd in the role. He’s certainly physical enough (the guy is huge), and he’s Scottish enough (he actually is a Scot). So, you know, the accent wouldn’t be so absurd knowing he isn’t affecting it.
But you know what would be better? Not remaking the damn movie in the first place.

Alec Baldwin as Ramirez…. perfect!!
I would like to see Kevin McKidd as Connor. And I’d cast Russell Crowe as Ramirez… complete with pony tail.
…and Mark Conan Stevens as the Kurgan !!
I perosnally wouldn’t mind to see this film remade mainly because it gives me fond memories as a kid watching this with my parents, however just a straight remake of this film would be very boring they need to add a twist coupled with a well thought out story line and make the prize really something worth fighting for. I thought Highlander and Highlander – End Game were OK movies however I would have to agree that the the story line overall and most certainly in II got messed up seem’s to me that someone couldn’t make up there mind when to end it and went off the plot a little.
Awesome he is a great choice anyone who has seen Rome knows McKidd is an amazing actor and is good in fight scenes. I would think it would be cool if Ramirez was played by Christopher Lambert, or if they could get Sean Connery back that would be cool. The Kurgan could be played Ray Stevenson who was in Rome with McKidd.
I dunno, I’m sure he’s good but I’d rather have Karl Urban play the role. Just my opinion. Ray Stevens as The Kurgen isn’t a bad choice though. Ramirez, I’m actually thinking a Spanish actor. How about Antonio Banderas? He can handle a sword, he can be charming, and he could give some serious weight to the piture.
all good actors but my vote is for Thomas Jane in christopher Lambert’s part… that is if you can’t get Christopher Lambert. You have to have that low brow and that look, they look like they could be brothers. How about an illustrated movie this time instead of a photo, can’t we ever get any illustrated movie posters? I would be happy to do the artwork.
I still say give the part to Karl Urban. With Ray Stevens as the Kurgan, and Liam Neeson as Ramirez. I think he has the pressence to take over for Connery. I still wouldn’t mind seeing Banderas play Ramirez either.
