Kevin McKidd Squashes Thor Rumors

By Nix | September 7, 2007 (12:15 am)

Not all that long ago, rumors surfaced that “Rome” star Kevin McKidd might be following in the footsteps of fellow “Rome” actor Ray Stevenson by stepping into the cape and Viking helmet of Thor in the upcoming big-screen live-action movie. Kevin McKidd has finally answered that rumor during a conference call with the press to promote his upcoming NBC fantasy TV series “Journeyman”, about a reporter who time travels into the past to “fix” things that went wrong — basically “Quantum Leap” if the New York Times were in charge. In any case, regarding the rumor, McKidd says as such:

“It’s semi true, I didn’t know about it either until I heard the rumors and I called my agent and he went, yeah, yeah, we’ve been talking to them about it. But the last I heard from my agent, they’re talking that they want to go for somebody much younger, a 19/20-year-old, for that role. So they’re re-conceptualizing it as we speak.”

But wait, McKidd fans. That doesn’t mean McKidd is TOTALLY out of “Thor”. He goes on to mention another character that he may have a chance for:

“I think there’s the other main male character in that movie that I’m in consideration for, but, certainly by no means it’s not in the bag or anything and, to be honest, until I read a script I really don’t know. I haven’t really had a look at a script. This is all still just information that’s coming in. So, you know, it could be fun, but it just depends on what’s on the page. I think it all starts and finishes with the quality of the script.”

So what have we learned from this? One: McKidd is NOT Thor; and Two) Thor is going to be a 19/20 year old punk.

Jesus, Hollywood.

If Kevin McKidd played Thor it would be a joke and a complete travesty and i for one wouldn’t watch it. For a start he’d have to gain at bare minimum 80 pounds of lean muscle(comic book Thor is 7 feet tall and weighs 600 pounds, even Hulk Hogan would have to pack on some serious mass) between now and the start of filming which is impossible no matter how much growth hormone and steroids he may or may not be willing to take.
I’m afraid Kevin as Thor is a non-starter.
