I never saw the original “Silent Night”, so I’m not really the person to ask about the pros and cons of this upcoming remake (officially a “loose remake”, by the distributor’s own words). I do know that the reboot was directed by Steven C. Miller, who has helmed some critically acclaim indie thriller/horror films, including the recent “The Aggression Scale” and “Under the Bed”. So, you know, there’s that. It also stars Malcolm McDowell and Jaime King, so those are pluses, too. And oh yeah, a killer Santa. I don’t think that ever goes out of style, do you?
McDowell and King star as a small-town sheriff and deputy on the hunt for a murderous Santa Claus terrorizing their community on Christmas Eve. But with the streets full of Santas for the annual Christmas parade, the killer is hiding in plain sight. He’s made his list, checked it twice, and the naughty are going to pay with their lives.
Also starring Donal Logue, Lisa Marie, Brendan Fehr, and Ellen Wong.
If you’re hoping to see the film in theaters, you might get your chance. Anchor Bay Films is currently scheduling the remake to open nationwide on November 30th — but only in ten major U.S. metropolitan areas. So basically, if you live in the boondocks, you can forget about it. But hey, have no fear, the film itself will then arrive on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and just plain DVD on December 4th.
No trailer yet, so you’ll have to make due with these images, poster, and DVD/Blu-ray cover artwork. The DVD/Blu-ray themselves will arrive with Behind The Scenes featurette and Deleted Scenes.
