It looks like Kristen Stewart will follow-up her gritty Snow White movie with a gritty action movie called “Cali”. The “Twilight” actress has signed on to headline “Cali” for Voltage Productions and New School Media.
Based on a script by Michael Diliberti (“30 Minutes or Lee”), “Cali” will find Stewart playing Mya, one half of a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds “with a penchant for bad choices and dangerous behavior. After selling a fake snuff film featuring Mya, they ride off into the sunset with a bundle of cash. Years later, Mya must “return from the dead” to save the younger sister she left behind in Cali, where the young couple contends with angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat and their own contentious relationship.”
Snuff films, sheesh. Just say no, kids.
The “edgy and sexy” role will also net Stewart her first producer’s credit, with the project currently out to directors.
It’s interesting that not a single one of the “Twilight” kids has really found their way as solo movie stars despite a huge fan following. Taylor Lautner’s career seems to be going nowhere, while Robert Pattinson continues to take chances that doesn’t seem to be really paying off in terms of box office. Likewise with Stewart, who has a pretty interesting mix bag of films post-“Twilight”, but not one big hit to call her own yet.
