Man, I love me some Larry Fessenden. I’m glad that this guy is making and producing horror films, because he’s honestly one of the few directors working in the genre today who seems to understand what constitutes a freaky, well-rounded experience. I know a lot of people seem to really hate “Wendigo”, and I totally understand why. Yours truly, however, has owned a copy since the flick arrived on home video years ago, and I’m quick to lend it to those looking for something different from the genre. If you haven’t seen it yet, by all means, give it a shot. Just be sure to keep an open mind.
According to the folks over at Variety, Fessenden will return to the director’s chair after a short hiatus to deliver the man-eating fish epic “Beneath”, which stars Daniel Zovatto. Don’t worry — I’m not sure who this guy is, either. However, ol’ Larry has a keen eye for talent, so I think we’re going to be okay in the performance department. As of this writing, Zovatto is the only person who has been cast in the upcoming monster movie. Rest assured that more will be added shortly.
Specifically, “Beneath” is about “six kids who find themselves stuck out on a lake in a rowboat being attacked by a ferocious, man-eating fish.” Glass Eye Pix is producing the film. I can’t wait to see how this one shakes out. It should be interesting to see how Fessenden handles man-eating fish. Excitement is quickly being reached.
And if you’re still wondering about “Wendigo”, I’ve included a trailer below. Have a look if you’re curious. It’s a very odd little movie, but it’s effective nonetheless.
