Latest Batch of Pics from Beach Spike Showcases the Film’s Best Assets

Who knows? Maybe “Beach Spike” is a revolutionary motion picture in terms of storytelling, direction, and acting. Maybe it has some of the best action sequences we’ve seen thus far this century. Perhaps it will redefine everything you thought you knew about the medium. Or, maybe, it’s just an excuse to watch a plethora of scantily-clad females play martial arts-tinged volleyball in the sand. Below you’ll find a small collection of new stills from the upcoming Chinese action/drama, a film that many wouldn’t be caught dead watching. However, as someone who proudly owns the live-action adaptation of “DOA: Dead or Alive”, I’m not above shamelessly pimping a movie that offers nothing in terms of depth. Sometimes simplicity is bliss.

“Beach Spike” opens in China on July 7th, 2011.

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at) beyondhollywood.com.

Hope they lowered the net for these girls. While they look hot, somehow they’re not very convincing beach volleyball players. I mean how are you so pale spending so much time in the sun.

Yeah Tin. Having dark skin is associated with being lower-class. It probably originated back when dark skin meant you were working outside on the farm all day while the upper class stayed in the shade. Slowly over the years that type of thinking has disappeared a bit, but for many Asians, having the lightest skin is a sign of health and wealth. I lived in Korea and skin whitening cream (bleach maybe?) was an ingredient in all of their cosmetics. I assume it’s an East Asian thing rather than just a Korean thing.
