The reviews for this one have been fairly positive, though I can’t get past how much walking and crying there is in the trailer. And while I shouldn’t judge a film based on a 90 second online video, I just can’t shake the feeling that this was lensed after watching lots of Gus Van Sant movies. For some, that might be a good thing. However, if you felt you wasted your time watching “Gerry” and “Elephant”, then the preview for “Entrance” might be less than impressive. Just a heads up.
Here’s an informative synopsis for you to chew on:
ENTRANCE is a riveting new psychological thriller from newcomers Dallas Hallam and Patrick Horvath, exploring the thin line between anxiety and naked horror in the life of Suzy (SUZIEY BLOCK), a young woman in Los Angeles who can’t get comfortable in her own skin. A loner who wallows in nostalgia and finds herself wandering aimlessly through life in the city, she can’t shake the gnawing suspicion that a true menace grows just outside her field of vision. As she scrambles to take control of her life, her anxiety rises to a fever pitch that boils over into a waking nightmare.
An official selection of the Los Angeles Film Festival, ENTRANCE is an intimate character study directed with a formalist restraint. Suziey Block’s fearless performance injects both terror and poise as this uniquely-styled thriller climbs from spark to inferno.
IFC Midnight will bring Patrick Horvath and Dallas Hallam’s “Entrance” to the masses on May 18th, 2012. If you can’t catch the flick in theaters, chances are you can just order it on VOD. That’s generally how these IFC releases work nowadays.
