Lara Croft Reaches a Turning Point in the Latest Tomb Raider Trailer

The titular (ahem) hero of this iconic video game series introduced yours truly to the gloriously addiction world of 3D adventuring, so I kind of have a soft spot for the old girl. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are looking to reboot the franchise by giving players a chance to see how Lara Croft became, well, Lara Croft. The title — which is simply called “Tomb Raider” — won’t hit retail shelves until 2012, but you can sample the famed adventurer’s return to glory by investigating the embedded clip.

Here’s a quick look at the storyline:

Tomb Raider explores the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor. Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold.

Author: Todd Rigney

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at)

This is a complete reboot. The original Lara Croft is done, this is the new Lara. She’s lean, athletic and look to kick some ass. This is the beginning of her story and it looks truly epic. Concentrating more on urvival than relic hunting we’ll get to see how Lara became the adventure seeker we know, but with some serious updates. I can’t waite. And I still say Olivia Wilde for this. If Kiera Knightley had more of a body i’d say use her.

Nice engine, graphics very cool. We will see how the gameplay and storyline is.

Not game graphics, and they are pretty poor for a cinematic trailer in my opinion. Average at best.
It really does nothing for me, I’m not one to get invested in “fake” or “digital” breasts. I’ll stick to the real thing thanks. (which is what most people will play this game for…”a hot chick” …on a computer screen…in pixel format…lame)

Never got into the old Tomb Raider games. It’s a little early to say I’m not interested in this one because we’ve seen absolutely zero of the game but I’m just not one to jump for joy for a new Tomb Raider game.
