Leaked Footage from the Canceled Thundercats CG Movie?

The last we heard about a possible “Thundercats” movie (CG or live-action) it was back in 2009, when news came that the movie had been “buried”, i.e. dead. But while the movie version appeared dead, a new “Thundercats” animated show was announced, with its Cartoon Network premiere set for sometime in 2011.

Which leads me to this YouTube video of what looks like test footage from the “Thundercats” CG movie. CBM got the clip from a website called FLIXIST, and honestly, no one seems to know what the hell it is. It could be actual test footage for the CG movie that never was, or it could be something some kid made with his iMac in his parent’s basement.

I hope not. It took away alot of the seriousness of the original cartoon. I would of like to see a little more a stake rather than an young lion-o

The “the seriousness of the original cartoon”? You obviously have a bad memory or you think the Wily Kits and Shnarf were serious characters……..

That was an awsome opening. I wish they wouuld revive this movie.

If this was gonna be a movie I can see why it’s dead.

It looks more like a cinematic for a videogame, which wouldn’t be a bad idea actually

I feel that it lacks the artistic integrity and insightful social statements of the original. Just kidding. SNARF!!

I would have watched it, if only to get my Thundercat fix. Must admit, sent a little chill down my spine to hear the call again after so long. I also think this would have made a better show on cartoon network, sort of like the clone wars series.

I agree. This wouldn’t have been bad. The animated series is along the same lines. We get a background on Lion-O’s pre-teen years and a little about his father on Thundera as the king. It gives a little more information on their battles against the Mutants of Plun-Darr. But anyways, enough of telling my age! I definitely agree with you, it would have fit in perfect on CartoonNetwork, especially scheduled after Clone Wars.

Definitely a bit of nostalgia. I liked Slythe’s look, he was a bit more menacing. This Lion-O seemed more like the original boy-in-a-man’s-body but he looked more like a teen. WHich works better. i always though him being aged to adult was bad. But this (and the new series0 has hi just aged to an older teen, and that makes sense. I did like the short spiky mane look though. Ah well. Maybe with the new series we’ll get a resurgence like with Transformers and G.I.Joe, and that’ll lead to a movie finally.

    ErickKwon is right. (sort of)
This footage is a proof of concept by Digital Domain. (just like the very first Tron Legacy “trailer”)
Digital Domain specifically created a “games” division tasked with using game architecture to create these visuals. It’s not exactly an in-game render… (The way it was done was supposedly a big deal, but to be honest, I never fully understood the technical details)
This project was going to be both a game, and an animated feature. When it was completed, there was much celebration and it was presented to Warner Brothers as everyone held their breath.

Warner Brothers basically said “Wow. Looks fantastic. If you want to make it, go right ahead, but we’re not paying for it.”
It was a colossal failure. The “games” division was obliterated as quickly as it was formed, and Digital Domain has been limping along ever since.

Wtf is that? Thats not Thundercats thats “Schmundercats”. Seriously wtf is that? Where is liono’s cool outfit, or the (best sword design ever!) original sword of omens. This is crap. My CG version of the sword is far more accurate than that piece of crap sword i see on the video. A real thundercats fan would never allow such a banality. I expect the real CG not to be like this. The thundercats dont need updates, neither on their suits nor the story nor the sword. They just need to be introduced to the “blind”. The thundercats where perfect in all ways! But your generation will probably fuck it up as you think that everything needs to be updated, well, youre wrong, some things dont! I hope the director of the movie dont f*** up cos he’ll get alot of pissed of genuine fans.
