In case you still weren’t getting that deja vu vibe with “Dredd’s” lock-in-a-building-with-criminals plot ala Gareth Evans’ “The Raid”, this latest clip from the film might do it. It’s a good thing for writer Alex Garland (ahem, I mean, the “endlessly inventive” Alex Garland) that most of the potential audience for “Dredd” has never seen Evans’ “The Raid”, or else the hullabaloo might be a tad louder than just a few blogs noticing the major, major similarities between the two films’ primary plot point. In any case, check out the latest clip from “Dredd”, in which Lena Headey lays down the law.
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One–a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge–a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
The film co-stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Jason Cope, Langley Kirkwood, Kevon Kane, Joe Vaz, Warrick Grier, Scott Sparrow, Luke Tyler, and is directed by Pete Travis.
Lock it down September 21, 2012.
