Boy, there are a lot of comic book news today. First there was that teaser trailer for “Thor: The Dark World”, a new groovy Japanese trailer for “The Wolverine”, a very tantalizing rumor about Zack Snyder possibly directing the “Justice League” movie, and finally, confirmation that Marvel had indeed re-claimed the Man Without Fear from Fox.
And now comes news that Lee Pace (star of the canceled cult favorite “Pushing Daisies”) is currently in talks to play the villain in James Gunn’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” adaptation for Marvel.
Dude actually looks like a blue-er version of Thanos (below). I guess that’s on purpose, since he’s apparently Thanos’ henchman and all.
Which makes sense, given that Marvel set up Thanos as a really dangerous intergalactic menace at the end of Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” (see that scene here in case you’re one of the three people who somehow didn’t watch “The Avengers” last year). If LR is correct, “Guardians” looks like another set-up movie for Thanos’ grand entrance in, possibly, “The Avengers 2”, perhaps?
Pace would join Chris Pratt, who actually beat out Pace and a number of other hunky Hollywood actors for the film’s male lead. Pratt will play a Earth pilot who ends up in the company of the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy, which happens to include sexy assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), while Michael Rooker will play the alien bow-wielding Yondu. British actress Ophelia Lovibond was also recently cast in an undisclosed role.
James Gunn will direct “Guardians of the Galaxy”, currently set for 2014.
