Tom Cruise is having a really bad day in Doug Liman’s “Edge of Tomorrow.” It’s the kind of bad day that even Jack Bauer would steer clear of. Luckily for our hero, he’s got Emily Blunt to lend a hand. Check out four clips from the sci-fi actioner, which finds Cruise reliving the same day over and over again. He just so happens to be in a futuristic army and alien invaders just so happen to be, well, invading.
The action in this thing looks insane, and you finally get to see a lot more of the alien critters. If you’ve read the original book that the movie is based, they’ve clearly changed a lot of things. The alien insects here look more like Transformers. Not that that’s a bad thing.
Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
Starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda, and Tony Way.
