If you’ve seen the ads for movies starring Liam Neeson where a gun is involved, you’ll notice that the editing makes it very obvious they’re trying to ape the “Taken” movies. But they’re not a “Taken” movie, cause there is only one “Taken” franchise, and well, the third one is on the way.
Check out your first look at director Olivier Megaton’s “Taken 3,” starring Neeson. This time around, Neeson’s ex-CIA badass Bryan Mills is on the run from the cops, as he tells USA Today:
“I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities,” says Neeson, choosing his words carefully. “Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. They must not like me.”
According to Neeson, this is his last “Taken” movie. Of course, he didn’t think he’d be back for the sequel, either, until Luc Besson backed into his driveway with a truck full of cash. The same for the third movie. Money talks and bullshit, well, you know.
Neeson’s got a sense of humor about the franchise, though. On the topic of screen daughter Maggie Grace being possibly “taken” again, he adds:
“This time, no more traveling,” says Neeson. “If my daughter was ‘taken’ again on a trip, Bryan Mills would have to be certifiably locked up for bad parenting.”
The film returns Maggie Grace as the oft-taken daughter, and adds Forest Whitaker as the man chasing Neeson this time. Sam Spruell, Dougray Scott, Dylan Bruno, Leland Orser, and Jon Gries also join the cast.
“Taken 3” goes on the lam next year, January 9th.
UPDATED: Empire Magazine has two more images from the movie. I’m not sure if this means “Taken 3” is being spread across the interwebs or what, but we’ll see as the day wears on.
