Disney has officially announced that “Downton Abbey” actress Lily James has landed the lead in their upcoming live-action version of the “Cinderella” tale. You know, evil stepmother, evil (and ugly) step sisters, and glass slippers? Yes, that Cinderella.
Kenneth Branagh is set to direct the film, with Cate Blanchett long ago set to play the film’s “iconic evil stepmother” who is determined to marry off her fugly daughters, while forcing poor ol Cinderella to clean the house and such. No word if this live-action take on the tale will include singing animals and the like.
Branagh, taking over for Mark Romanek, who was originally attached to the film, is directing from a script by Chris Weitz.
Disney is eyeing a 2014 release date for the film.
Lily James, who can also be seen in the racing flick “Fast Girls” (pictured below) and a background role in “Wrath of the Titans” apparently beat out fellow Brits like Emma Watson, Gabriella Wilde and Imogen Poots for the gig.
