The live action version of Hayao Miyazaki’s 1989 animated classic “Kiki’s Delivery Service” is currently in production in Japan. As a fan of the original flick, I’m not entirely convinced this endeavor is a good idea. While it will be interesting to see how they bring the character to life, a lot of the magic was in the animation itself. I’m trying to keep a positive attitude since I obviously haven’t seen the flick, but this is proving to be increasingly difficult.

Curious parties will want to investigate the video embedded below. Not only will you get to see Koshiba Fuka in-character, you’ll also get a peek at some of the sets. Despite my doubts, the bakery certainly appears true to Miyazaki’s classic. Damn you, Kiki! I want to despite your live-action adaptation! I will not be charmed by your colorful sets!

Too late, I guess, because I’m anxious to see more. Takashi Shimizu is helming the project, so I know I’m going to watch it. I’m curious and apprehensive about his involvement, but I’ll definitely spend some time with the flick when it’s finally available for mass consumption.

Check out the video below if you’re interested to see more about the live-action adaptation of “Kiki’s Delivery Service.” You may hate it at first, but chances are you’ll be charmed. If you’re a sucker, that is. Like me. Maybe we can form a club or something in my backyard.
