Looks like director Peter Berg has located the fourth member of his 4-men SEAL team for his upcoming Afghanistan War-set movie “Lone Survivor”, a film that he’s been trying to get made for years now. “Lone Survivor” will be an adaptation of the non-fiction book about a mission-gone-awry by former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. It’s a hell of a great read, and I recommend picking it up for anyone who enjoys, you know, readin’ and such.
Emile Hirsch, last seen in “The Darkest Hour” and “Savages”, is currently “in talks” to play Danny Dietz in the film, joining a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, and Taylor Kitsch. Hirsch will be reuniting on the film with Kitsch, who he co-starred alongside in “Savages”.
“Lone Survivor” will be set in 2005, when Luttrell and his SEAL team was sent into the mountains of Afghanistan to capture or kill a Taliban leader, only to find themselves trapped in a no-win situation against a horde of Taliban fighters. Much of the film will focus on Luttrell, to be played by Wahlberg, as he escapes the ambush and go on the run in the mountains, hunted by the Taliban.
For those of you keeping track at home, this is the third time that Kitsch is playing a Navy SEAL. He played one in “Savages”, and at the end of “Battleship”, he was being recruited into the SEALs (so technically he wasn’t a SEAL yet back then, but you know, close enough).
