Originally slated to star Sam Worthington with Alex Proyas directing, Universal’s “Dracula: Year Zero” has stumbled its way into a new leading man in Luke Evans, currently menacing the “Fast and Furious” boys in Justin Lin’s upcoming “Fast and Furious 6”.
Evans has been on the Universal radar for some time, with roles in “Immortals”, “The Musketeers”, and “Clash of the Titans”, where he starred opposite Worthington. He’s also got a couple of big films coming up in the final two installments of Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” trilogy, where he’s scheduled to play Bard the Bowman.
Commercial director Gary Shore is set to make his directorial debut on the film, since re-titled simply “Dracula”. The movie, another take on the Dracula legend, would find Evans playing “a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.”
Don’t you hate it when that happens?
Of course, “Dracula” (aka “Dracula: Year Zero”) has been in the works since 2007, so who the hell knows if it’ll actually happen with Evans and Shore attached.
In the meantime, there’s always this:
