M. Night Shyamalan’s Not-so-Secret Secret Sci-Fi Movie with The Smiths

Oh, M. Night Shyamalan, at this point in your career, should you really be running around town “hiding” movies from the public? For now, the answer is still yes, because ol M. Night has found himself a new super duper secret movie that he plans to direct — a sci-fi epic starring Jaden Smith (“The Karate Kid” remake), with Smith’s daddy Big Willy aka Will Smith producing.

The film will be called “One Thousand A. E.”, and comes from “Book of Eli” writer Gary Whitta. As usual with Night, the plot of the movie is being locked away in a safe somewhere cause, you know, if it ever leaks out, it might spell doom for mankind as we know it! Or possibly not. Hey, you can never tell with an M. Night movie. Remember “Lady in the Water”? Or “The Happening”?

Anyways, Night is looking at “A.E.” as his next directorial gig post-”The Last Airbender”, which despite starting out very slowly thanks to horrid critical reviews and overwhelmingly negative fan reaction, has quietly gone on to make $315 million worldwide. The film was budgeted at $150 million, but if you include all the costs associated with manufacturing a Hollywood Summer tentpole film, $315 won’t quite get you a sequel right away. Of course, whose to say it won’t get you a sequel in a few years, once the DVD and cable and other ancillary sales kick in…

Until then, though, you’ll have to be satisfied with Jaden Smith in “One Thousand A.E.”. Maybe the Karate Kid can learn to “bend”, you know, stuff…

'Haha, sorry, Jackie, I think it's just me this time around. Maybe when we get a 'Karate Kid 2' up and kicking...'

Another vehicle for Will Smith’s brat!? Really?!?!? I guess it is common practice for Hollywood actors and actresses having their kids break into the entertainment industry. Ever since Ricky Nelson and Liza Minneli shot onto the scene after their parents paved the way. Then there were the 80′s crop with Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, Drew Barrymaore, Josh Brolin and Sean Astin among others. Usually I don’t mind it. Some are even talented. However, this new crop of Hollywood offspring is unbearable. Jayden Smith? Miley Cyrus? Connor Cruise? Haylie Hasselhoff ???? Them and a slew of other talentless coatail riders make me nuts. “Let’s remake a classic film and put a star’s kid in it! That’s a great Idea!” I would rather scalp the skin from my scrotum with a potatoe peeler than watch these hacks! Hollywood please stop placating to the egos of these stars and bending to their every whim! The movie going public does not deserve this punishment!

And yet “Karate Kid” was actually praised even by the haters. He may not be a great actor but not all actors START great. That was like his 3rd film. As for the others you mentioned yeah they really do annoy me. Didn’t even know the Hoff’s kid was acting. But you can’t hate on the parents for wanting their kid to follow in their footsteps, hell in most cases it’s the kids themselves that want to get into it because of what their parents do not the other way around.

Very well said; except for maybe the scrotum part, LOL. That is why I have been getting into foreign films over the last several years. Hollywood has disappointed me and I am a film student myself. Hollywood will make something new and fresh like “Sin City”, “Machete” and “Cloverfield” and then comes the crapolla. They have remade like how many Asian films now?! “Shutter”, “A Tale Of Two Sisters”, “One Missed Call”, “Ringu”, “Dark Water”, “The Eye”, “Ju-on” and the list goes on and on. Now they are remaking “The Host” from South Korea. And they remade “Let The Right One In”. Next on the chop block is remakes of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” trilogy. Wanna watch some good cinema? Watch these: “Old Boy”, “6ixtynin9″, “Death Note”, “Death Note: The Last Name”, “Battle Royale”, “Mother”, “The Host”, the “20th Century Boys” Trilogy, “Let The Right One In”, “Monsters”, “Natural City”, “The Isle”, “Memories Of Murder”, “2046″, “Save The Green Planet”, “Lady Vengeance”, “A Tale Of Two Sisters”, “Ong Bak”, “To Live”, “Raise The Red Lantern”, “Tokyo Godfathers”, “Brotherhood Of The Wolf”, “Haute Tension”, “Avalon”, “District B-13″, “Visitor Q” and so many others.

Don’t know what is going on with Shyamalan. I have not seen “Devil” yet but after “The Sixth Sense”, “Unbreakable” and “Signs”, he seemed like he was worrying about going mainstream. “The Village” was terrible. I like “Lady In The Water” but it should have been straight to blu-ray/dvd; not have a theatrical run. The opening for “The Happening” was awesome and then it went sour. I will never forget seeing “Signs” in the theater. Everyone jumped out their seats when that alien came from behind the bushes during the video of the birthday party. The chick I was with climbed all up on me in terror during that scene. I am not even interested in “The Last Airbender”. Shyamalan needs his magic back and needs to stop worrying about mainstream peers and movie goers accepting him. His fans already supported him with his first three films. “The Sixth Sense” and “Signs” made a ton of money. He needs to go back to what he does best: shocking the world. Just like the Pang Bros., after their hit film “Re-cycle”, they went back to what they do best with their latest fray into the supernatural with “The Child’s Eye” 3-D and it looks good compared to “The Messengers”. Personally, I am looking forward to “Skyline”, “The Child’s Eye”, “The Troll Hunter” and “Super 8″. Hopefully Transformers 3 and Batman 3 will be good. Not sold on the Spider-man and X-men reboots. Iron Man films always deliver. Hopefully The Avengers won’t be cheesy junk like the Fantastic Four films.
