Maggie Grace, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, and a Magical Battery? WTF James Mangold?

THR is reporting that Maggie Grace is the latest addition to an untitled spy movie by James Mangold (“3:10 to Yuma”) that will star Tom Cruise as a super spy (what a stretch, Tom!) and Cameron Diaz as a “lonely woman” who meets Tommy on a blind date. Result: He takes her on what is being described as “a violent worldwide journey”.

And why, pray tell, is the cause for all this journey of such violence? Apparently it’s to protect “a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source.” You know, sort of like that giant lantern the Green Lanterns get their powers from, except that’s a comic book, and this, er, is a spy thriller directed by James Mangold. Say wha…?

Maggie Grace will play the little sister of Cameron Diaz’s character. There is apparently some sort of background to the character that we’re supposed to think is important, such as Grace’s character is getting married, and Diaz is supposed to walk her down the aisle in lieu of their deceased father, who may or may not have died when he tried to use the super duper battery with infinite power source to power his Walkman, cause that’s what old people do, you know.

Shooting on the untitled spy flick is scheduled to start October in Boston.

By the by, Maggie Grace (below) is kinda attractive.
