Maggie Q. is the Queen of King of Fighters

Asian Movie News, King of Fighters (2009) Movie — By Nix on December 18, 2008

There will probably come a time when Hollywood starlet by way of Hong Kong Maggie Q. gets tired of Hollywood casting her either as an ass-kicking badass who barely has any lines or as a mysterious woman who slinks around onscreen in revealing lingerie. Until then, Maggie Q. has joined the cast of Gordon Chan’s “King of Fighters”. Yes, a live-action movie based on the videogame of the same name. You might have heard about it. We first reported that Chan was doing the movie way back in May of 2007, but haven’t heard much from the movie since. Apparently that was because they hadn’t hired anyone we were really all that interested in, a problem they seem to have resolved by getting Maggie Q.

The news comes from Variety, who says Q. (whose real last name is Quigley, by the way, the Q. was something she developed during her modeling days in Asia) will be joining a cast that already includes Sean Faris, Ray Park, Will Yun Lee and David Leitch, who will also be doing double duty as action choreographer. The article also says that the movie is scheduled to wrap in January 2009 with a late 2009 release date, which means the film has been shooting for a while now.

And did I mention the film also co-stars Ray Park? According to IMDB.com, he’ll be playing a character named Rugal. They also list other castmembers and their respective characters: Françoise Yip is Chizuru, Will Yun Lee is lori, Monique Ganderton is Mature, and Hiro Kanagawa is Saisyu Kusanagi. And if you know who those characters are, then you were probably a King of Fighters arcade game addict. Me, I haven’t a clue. I was more of a Street Fighter man myself.
