Magic Shenanigans for Lawrence and Smith in The City That Sailed

The City That Sailed Movie — By Nix on July 8, 2009

No, not shenanigans for Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, though that would be kind of funny, in a painful sort of way. Rather, it’s director Francis Lawrence, who last directed Will Smith in the post-apocalyptic “I am Legend”, a film that grossed so much money worldwide the studio has been talking prequel/sequel for a while now. Whether an “I am Legend 2″ eventually gets off the ground or not, it looks like the director and his star have found a new project: a fantasy movie called “The City That Sailed”.

Check out this premise from THR, kids:

Written by Andrew Niccol, the story follows a New York City street magician whose daughter, because of family circumstances, lives in England. In exploring a lighthouse one day, the girl discovers a room with magic candles and wishes to be reunited with her father, causing the island of Manhattan to break away and drift across the Pond.

At the moment, Lawrence is currently only developing the picture, though chances are he’ll also end up directing it as well. Smith, meanwhile, is producing it through his company, and there is no guarantee he will make it his next movie. He still doesn’t have any solid movie plans yet since 2008’s “Seven Pounds”, though rumor has him attached to the remake of “Old Boy”.

Andrew Niccol, meanwhile, wrote and directed “Gattaca”, “Lord of War”, and has a new sci-fi movie called “The Cross” coming out in 2010.

Below: “Say, pops, howzabout throwing your boy that juicy role, huh? Except make it a boy, cause I ain’t no girl.”
