Magnet Releasing Acquires Alex de la Iglesia’s The Last Circus

This is good news, dear readers. Extremely good news. In case you were wondering — and I can tell by that peculiar look on your face that you probably weren’t — Alex de la Iglesia is one of my favorite directors. I’ve seen “Accion Mutante” more times than I’m willing to admit, though “Day of the Beast” isn’t too far behind. The director’s latest offering looks pretty warped, so I’ll be more than happy to check it out once the damned thing arrives on North American shores. As of this writing, Magnet has not set a release date. That’s okay. I’m willing to wait quite a while for this one to drop.

Here’s the lowdown on the story:

Written by Iglesia, the film kicks off during the Spanish Civil War, where members of a circus are forced to fight a platoon, in full circus garb. The story picks up many years later to focus on the rivalry that simmers between a sad clown (the son of one of the circus performers who saw combat) and a happy clown and what the two will do to win the affections of a woman.

Now that you’re acquainted with Iglesia’s latest endeavor, why not take a peak at the trailer lurking below. It’s extremely cool.
