Man of Steel Synopsis Confirms Origins Story Rumors

Superman Comic Book CoverThe boys at Superman Homepage have gotten their hands on a casting call and official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Man of Steel”, and yes, as long-rumored, it is indeed another origins story. A reboot of the franchise, if you will.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Which is too bad. I would have liked to see something else. Why does it always have to be a reboot? Another origins story? Everyone and their momma already knows who Superman is, right? Ask some kid off a Haitian refugee boat, and he could probably tell you where Superman came from, etc.

Anyways, there you go. “Man of Steel” is, indeed, an official reboot of Superman — in case, you know, you didn’t already know that.

Look at it this way: they didn’t go the origin route with SUPERMAN RETURNS and the effort fell flat. This is actually them going against what you’d expect sort of. Plus, even though it’s another Superman origin story, it’s one we haven’t seen onscreen yet. The original film with Christopher Reeves lacked a “super powered baddie”, something ppl say hurt the first film and Returns. And, as you guys are prone to say, Christopher Nolan is “godfathering” this one so it should be pretty good. Think about it, people were groaning when THE DARK KNIGHT was announced (“The Joker? AGAIN?”) Look how that turned out…..

They should have brought Routh back.

“Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here?”–for Christ’s sake, please no. That whole introspective, moody attitude is what brought down “Superman Returns.”

Worry not. I’m sure this one will blown us away.

Reboot?. I welcome it!. They needed to wash this movie up from the original Superman movies and the awfully boring Superman Returns.

If anything I believe writers (Nolan/Goyer) will make the “road to be Superman” as important as “to be Superman” itself, and that’s no bad thing. Telling us why he’s the big blue boyscout, why he believes in truth and justice.

X-men was a successful franchise and they rebooted with TONS of goodness. Why not Superman. I say go for it if your doing it right.

I agree with Lexavi80 – reboot away! The original film franchise began over 30 years ago and arguably fell as low as Joel Schumacher brought the Batman films – and look what that reboot has brought us?

Let’s face it – Routh was a terrible choice for Superman, but even him aside, WB and DC need to distancs themselves from sons of Superman and real-estate scandals!

Bring on a new younger actor – with some chops for the roll – who can carry the franchise for another 3 or 4 films.

Seriously, am I the only one out there who actually enjoys origin stories? Hmmm…

This is about the only ongoing superhero film franchise that needed an origins reboot.
I’m stoked. Snyder knows what he’s doing when he’s adapting.

After P.O.S of superman return, damn right superman need a reboot!

I’m all for a reboot of Superman, but really wouldn’t mind bypassing the origins story. Rather get to the nitty gritty of superman saves the world.

I think we all know how superman got here. Let’s skip the history lesson that even non-geeks are familiar with and be a superhero.
