I have the new “Hawaii Five-O” on my DVR list, but I have to admit, I don’t really watch it immediately after it airs. It’s a good, fun show, but I wouldn’t exactly call it one of my must-watch shows unlike, say, “Detroit 1-8-7” or “The Walking Dead”. Still, though, I find it innocuous enough, and now it’s added another good reason for me to tune in sooner — Mark Dacascos has been cast on the show as the new Wo Fat.
On the original show, Wo Fat was the arch nemesis of Steve McGarrett (the two boys are pictured, top left), and was a Red Chinese intelligence officer and a staunch communist. Although he only appeared in eleven episodes, he was regarded as the show’s one major recurring villain. Though I figure they’re going to have to change Wo Fat from a Red Chinese to something else.
Dacascos was born in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, and I presume he still has a home there with the wife and kids.
No word on when Dacascos will appear on the show as Wo Fat, and from all the episodes I’ve seen so far, the show hasn’t quite made room for a recurring villain, though there was an Irish bad guy in the pilot who “disappeared”, never to be seen again. If the idea is to make Dacascos’ Wo Fat a thorn in McGarrett’s side, they’ll probably introduce him before the year is out, possibly in the season finale or thereabouts.
I’m just guessing, of course.
