The funniest part about Peter Berg’s “Lone Survivor” is that Boston guy Mark Wahlberg is playing all-American Texas guy Marcus Luttrell. And he’s not even trying to play a Texan, either. So I guess the conceit is that, although the name is still Luttrell, that it’s not really Luttrell. Or something. I personally have no idea, but I guess it’s probably better than forcing Wahlberg (who, let’s face it, has limited range) to try to affect an accent. The result would have been hilariously wonky.
Anyways, check out the latest minute-long TV spot for “Lone Survivor”, including a behind-the-scenes featurette featuring the real-life Luttrell. Now just try to imagine Wahlberg as the 6’5″ Marcus Luttrell with a Texas accent and swagger. Yeah, Hollywood magic, baby!
Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and survival, Lone Survivor tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan. Faced with an impossible moral decision, the small band is isolated from help and surrounded by a much larger force of Taliban ready for war. As they confront unthinkable odds together, the four men find reserves of strength and resilience as they stay in the fight to the finish.
Starring Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster and Eric Bana.
Surviving early next year on January 10, 2014.
