Martin Sheen Is Uncle Ben In The Spider-Man Reboot

It looks like Martin Sheen is joining the cast of Columbia’s upcoming 3D “Spider-Man” reboot. Heatvision reports that the star of “Apocalypse Now” is in final negotiations to play Uncle Ben.

In “Spider-Man” lore, Uncle Ben, along with Aunt May, is responsible for bringing up Peter Parker. His death at the hands of a burglar is the key event that turns Parker, who until then was using his newfound super-powers for personal gain, to step onto the path of heroism.

Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network)” will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone (“Zombieland”) is Gwen Stacey, the love interest, and Rhys Ifans (“Little Nicky”) will be the as yet unnamed villain. Marc Webb is set to direct, and shooting may begin as early as December.

HEY, I’M AN IDIOT UPDATE: They did announce the Spidey villain. Rhys Ifans is playing Dr. Curt Connors, aka The Lizard. It slipped my mind momentarily, but it’s back now. I’m going to take a nap.
