Marvel Gears up Runaways Movie

By Nix | May 22, 2008 (1:35 am)

“Runaways”? What the heck are the “Runaways”? They’re a new (at least new in comparison to Marvel’s stable of soon-to-be-movie characters) comic book from Marvel, created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona, and follows a new group of teen superheroes who are, as the title implies, runaways from home. Vaughan is currently penning the script for a big screen treatment, but Marvel has yet to scheduled the film.

The Hollywood Reporter has more on the comic:

“Runaways” follows a group of teenagers who find that some family secrets are bigger than others when they discover their parents are actually super-villains. Running away from their homes, the teens band together and begin a journey of discovery, both of their parents’ origins and of their own inherited powers, while trying to make up for the evil done by their folks.

Not a bad premise for a comic book, or a movie. At least it’s not another comic book about a bunch of do-gooder mutants.

Brian K. Vaughan is a wanted man. Besides working as writer and producer on ABC’s Lost, he’s also got his comic book “Y: The Last Man” working to get made at New Line.
