That would be Peter Quill (the masked shooter to your left), the half-human, half-alien hero that leads the self-appointed Guardians of The Galaxy in, well, the “Guardians of The Galaxy” comic books and upcoming movie by Marvel Studios.
And who exactly are Marvel currently doing screen tests with for the role? According to Deadline, they include Joel Edgerton (currently hunting Osama Bin Laden in “Zero Dark Thirty”), “Boardwalk Empire‘s” Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess (recently in “Cloud Atlas”), Lee Pace (from “The Hobbit”), and Eddie Redmayne (currently in “Les Miserables”).
The trade also reports that there may be interest for or from “Tron: Legacy’s” Garrett Hedlund, “X-Men’s” James Marsden, and “Strike Back’s” Sullivan Stapleton, who already landed the lead in the “300” prequel, “Rise of an Empire”. Sullivan would actually make a pretty awesome wisecracking-human-guy-in-outer-space hero, sort of like Ben Browder in “Farscape”, only more Australian.
“Guardians of the Galaxy”, based on the Marvel comics, follows a disparate group of heroes (that includes, get this, a talking raccoon) as they roam the universe protecting it from any and all threats. The film is being written by James Gunn, who is also directing, with “The Avengers'” Joss Whedon lurking in the background masterminding everything.
Here’s a look at Sullivan Stapleton from his hit cable show “Strike Back”:
