Marvel Officially Schedules The Avengers 2 for May 1, 2015

Per Marvel Studios/Disney, “The Avengers 2″ will be landing in theaters May 1, 2015. The film is currently being called “Untitled Marvel’s Avengers Sequel”, which would seem to indicate it’ll be getting a subtitle soon enough.

Joss Whedon, once again, will write and direct the sequel.

In case you’re keeping track at home, this is how Marvel’s current scheduled for the next few years looks like:

“Iron Man 3″ – May 3, 2013
“Thor: The Dark World” – November 8, 2013
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” – April 4, 2014
“Guardians of the Galaxy” – August 1, 2014
“The Avengers 2″ – May 1, 2015

And “Ant-Man” for 2015, too, perhaps?

Hopefully Ant-Man is set up as 2015’s second release!!!

    • Dedpool

Yeah. Give the man some set up in Avengers if it comes out first, or in Ant-man to be in Avengers if that comes first.

  • LionHeart

It bugs me how Iron Man doesn’t get subtitles but everything else does.

    …Why yes, I am insane.

    • Dedpool

Probably because they didn’t have one for 2 so why add them now. Thor and Cap are getting them for their first sequels.

  • M@rvel

It’s kind of weird that a Hulk sequel isn’t even planned at all for phase 2 when all of the other Avengers get their own sequels….

    • Juggernaut

Kevin Feige has pointed out on several occasions thta he(and Marvel) believe that Hulk works more effectively in smaller doses as an ensemble player. I however would love to see a new Hulk film with Ruffalo back as Banner going up against Leader. I’d also like stand alone films for Hawkeye and BlackWidow and a SHIELD movie. Maybe they’ll be part of phase 3!

      • TotesMagotes

Yes I know what Feige said about Hulk, but since the role of Bruce Banner has changed so many times I just want Ruffalo to star in his own film so that he will really feel like the real Hulk and not just a replacement to Norton yaknow? Ruffalo was great in the Avengers, though, don’t get me wrong about that.

        • Juggernaut

I know what you mean. It would givehim a bit of ownership of the role.

3 years between Avengers movies… I hope the average movie goer will still remember how much fun the first was. And, an August release of Guardians, does this imply any preconceived ideas about how well it will do? Finally, I hope if they do release Ant-Man that Henry is under the hood. At least for the first go around… maybe set the movie in the sci-fi heavy ’50s with Scott Lang taking over for the modern era.

About Guardian’s release date — no. Marvel likes to have periods between their movies, and they have Captain America 2 in April. They also avoid Transformers 4 in June and X-Men First Class 2 in July. They have August, still a summer month, all to themselves. Pretty smart, I think.

Thanks for the expanded logic. I had not even considered there were other movies to avoid which there would obviously be with any movie release. Thanks.
