Marvel Officially Announces The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron

The Avengers Age of Ultron (2015) Movie Title Logo

I guess Thanos will just have to take a back seat. For a while, anyway. Despite being teased as the next Big Bad in Marvel’s ever-expanding cinematic universe, it appears the villain of Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers 2″ will instead be an artificial intelligence/robot menace called Ultron.

Marvel confirmed Ultron’s villainy by sending over the official title treatment above.

Age of Ultron Comic Book CoverSo who is Ultron? According to Marvel:

Arguably the greatest and certainly the most horrific creation of scientific genius Dr. Henry Pym, Ultron is a criminally insane rogue sentient robot dedicated to conquest and the extermination of humanity.

Sentient machines. When will we ever learn? Nothing, and I mean, nothing good ever comes from giving machines intelligence. Oh, humanity.

The character was created by Hank Pym aka Ant-Man, who is a founding member of The Avengers, and is the subject of Edgar Wright’s upcoming movie “Ant-Man”. My guess is that Marvel will tie the two movies, though it’s interesting to note that “The Avengers” will open first on May 1, 2015, followed by “Ant-Man” in November of the same year.

Does that mean the events of “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” will lead into the events of “Ant-Man”? I guess we’ll find out in 2015. Oh, who are we kidding. We’ll find out before then. I’m sure some fanboy site will crack the connections soon enough.

It’s interesting that Thanos is being pushed back, though, especially with “Guardians of the Galaxy” coming out in 2014. From everything I’ve read, he is NOT the main villain of “Guardians”. So is he being saved for a REALLY big throwdown with the Marvel heroes in, say, “The Avengers 3″ and beyond?

Curiouser and curiouser…

Wow! There is so much comic news today!!! This is going to be really cool. Thanos gets to be built into a real threat that only the Avengers can stop in Guardians Of The Galaxy, the Avengers introduce Ant-Man and Wasp to defeat Ultron in what is sure to be epic.

    Alright here’s my random theory:

After the battle in New York, The SHIELD Council, still without faith that the Avengers can protect the Earth, hires Dr. Henry Pym to design a near-indestructible sentient machine capable of detecting threats to the Earth and eliminating them. Blah blah blah Ultron is born blah blah it detects the humans as a threat to the Earth blah blah blah Avengers save the day the end.OR The Avengers don’t save the day and the story carries over to the Ant-Man film where Dr. Pym has to become Ant-Man/Giant-Man to defeat Ultron. Or Ant-Man will take place before The Avengers: Age of Ultron….?? This is confusing.

I could see that premise being the plot. I think that Avengers 2 will take place cronologically after the Ant-Man film. Having the Ant-man film opening with a recap of the events of Avengers 2 and showing an adventure during the time leading up to Avengers 2. Makes sense, good call.

And maybe Ultron creates his own robot army to fight The Avengers and one of them decides to rebel and join the Avengers, becoming, The Vision. It could be like a cross between I, Robot and Terminator but with super heroes lol!

HA!!! I knew it!! *Does dance of righteousness!*
    All hail Ultron!

  • Lexavi80

It was confirmed that Ultron’s origin have nothing to do with Hank Pym (in Avengers 2, I mean). That’s why Ant-Man movie will come later.

Also, in spite of the name, the movie won’t be based on the Age Of Ultron saga that came this year.

All this came from Joss Weedon himself.
